DESCRIPTION:
The Big Dippers Science of Reading Short Course is comprised of 5 self-paced modules that can be completed in approximately 10 hours. Each module has clearly stated objectives, explicitly written background information, useful video demonstrations, numerous graphic illustrations, and a variety of downloadable resources and links. Based on adult learning theory, each module includes activities to reinforce concepts, intermittent feedback through the use of checks for understanding, and a final knowledge check to support mastery of concepts.
The modules are based on more than forty years of research, including several foundational conceptual modules that explain how reading works:
- How Students Learn to Read: An Introduction to the Science of Reading
- Structured Literacy
- Word Recognition: An Encounter with Phonics
- The Language Comprehension Domain
- The Reading Comprehension Domain
NOTE: This course aligns with NDCC 15.1-21-12.1.
DELIVERY: This opportunity is delivered as a self-paced online course with a total of 5 modules, which will take approximately 10 hours to complete. Participants need to have completed all 5 modules by June 15th, 2022. If the course is NOT completed by June 15th, participants will be billed for the full $75 course cost. Participants will have access to the information in the learning management system for one year.
After you complete the course, you will receive a certificate of completion from Big Dippers Science of Reading!
